Summer Field Trip to Bonsai Nurseries 7/18

posted Jun 13, 2009 9:40 PM by Lonnie Bowling
Back by popular demand, we are set for our summer expedition north.  We won't be going quite as far as the migratory birds, but almost.  Here are the details:

Event Coordinator:  Lonnie
Date: Saturday, July 18th
Nurseries Visiting: Deer Meadow Bonsai, Lone Pine Gardens, and Sumigawa Growing Grounds

This will be an all day outing, bring plenty of water and money! We will meet at the senior center parking lot at 8:30 and depart at 8:45 sharp.  If you are late, you will have to make your way to the first stop on your own.

First we will be driving to Jim Gremel's Deer Meadow Bonsai Nursery.  This is a big treat for us; Jim's bonsai material is top of the line and he will have plenty of wire and soil.  Arrival will be at 10:00 and we'll eat lunch at the nursery (pizza from the Union Hotel for about $10 per person).  With full bellies and new energy, we will say good-by to Jim (and some of our cash) and head to Lone Pine Gardens for more shopping.  We should be arriving around 1:00pm.  Janet and Ian are always super friendly and have a full range of trees and pots to select from.  I'm sure everyone will find something they "need."  Finally, we will be leaving about 2:30 to get to Sumigawa Nursery by 3:00.  At Sumigawa we will meet up with Dan and then drive to their growing grounds about a mile away from the nursery.  Here we will find several acres of per bonsai material at great prices.  It is easy to get lost here, I'm not kidding.  We will leave about 4:00 and be back to the senior center by 5:00.  Whew, what a day!

We will be car pooling to try and limit the number of vehicles and usually someone will have a truck to haul our loot that won't fit in our cars.  Last time we came back fully loaded.

There will be a sign up sheet at the meetings.  You can also contact me at lonniebowling@napabonsai.org if you want to sign up or have questions.

There should be something here for everyone, so don't miss this if you can help it. I hope to see a great turn out!
